Best Christian Books for New Believers

If you’ve just started following Jesus or if you're coming back to your faith - first of all, welcome! This journey with God is the most important one you’ll ever take. It’s full of love, hope, learning, and peace. But starting out can feel a little overwhelming sometimes, and that’s okay. You're not alone.

One of the best ways to grow in your faith is to read books that point you to Jesus. Below are some easy-to-read, encouraging books that are some of my favorite ones. Each one has something special to offer, whether it’s explaining the basics, helping you slow down, or reminding you how loved you are.

Live No Lies by John Mark Comer

This book talks about how we often believe lies - about ourselves, the world, and even God. John Mark Comer helps us spot those lies and replace them with God’s truth. It’s honest, kind, and full of hope.

The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer

Life can get really busy. This book reminds us to slow down and spend time with God. It shows how a quiet, simple life can lead to deeper peace and joy. It’s perfect if you’re feeling rushed or burned out.

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

This book is a classic. C.S. Lewis explains what Christians believe in a very clear and thoughtful way. It’s like having a conversation with a wise friend who’s been walking with Jesus for a long time.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

If you like stories, you’ll love this one. It’s a novel based on a powerful Bible story about love, forgiveness, and grace. It shows how God never gives up on us, no matter what we’ve been through.

Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund

This book focuses on the heart of Jesus - how kind, loving, and welcoming He really is. It’s especially good if you’re feeling unworthy, tired, or unsure of how God feels about you. It reminds you that Jesus is full of grace and mercy.

Hearing God: Developing a Conversational Relationship with God by Dallas Willard

This book helps you understand that God is not distant - He wants to speak with you. It explains how to listen for God’s voice and how to build a real, personal relationship with Him.

Love Lives Here by Maria Goff

This book is full of sweet, personal stories that remind you what really matters - love, kindness, faith, and being present. It’s warm, real, and easy to read perfect when you just need encouragement.

Everybody, Always by Bob Goff

Bob Goff shares fun and powerful stories about learning to love others, even when it’s hard. This book will inspire you to live with joy, compassion, and courage as you follow Jesus.

More Than a Carpenter Study Guide: Four Lessons on Who Jesus Is by Josh McDowell

This short and powerful study guide helps you explore who Jesus really is and why He matters. It’s perfect if you’re still asking questions or want to understand the basics of who Jesus claimed to be.

Starting your walk with Jesus is exciting and it’s okay if it also feels a little new or uncertain. These books are here to help you feel encouraged, loved, and closer to God. Start with one that sounds interesting, take your time, and remember: God is with you every step of the way. You are deeply loved, and you are not alone.
