How to Hear from God in Your Business

How to Hear from God in Your Business

Running a business can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming sometimes. There are so many decisions to make - big and small. You might be wondering, “Am I doing the right thing?” or “Is this what God wants for me?”

The truth is, God cares about your business. He cares about your ideas, your customers, your goals, and your everyday work. He wants to walk with you through all of it.

So how do you hear from God in your business? How do you know if you're following His lead? Here are some simple and gentle ways to hear God’s voice as you do the work He’s called you to:

1. Talk to God Like a Friend

You don’t need fancy prayers or big words. Just talk to God like you would talk to a close friend. You can say something like:

  • God, I don’t know what to do today. Please guide me.”

  • Lord, this decision feels hard. Can You show me what’s best?

  • Help me be wise with this idea. Lead me in the right direction.

It’s not about praying perfectly - it’s about praying honestly. God is always listening.

2. Take Time to Be Quiet

Life is noisy. Work is busy. But when we slow down, we can start to hear God’s gentle voice.

Try this:

  • Take 5 or 10 minutes each day to sit quietly.

  • Turn off your phone and close your laptop.

  • Take a few deep breaths and say, “God, I’m listening.”

You may not hear anything right away, but over time, you might notice little thoughts, ideas, or feelings that bring peace. That’s often how God speaks.

3. Read the Bible for Guidance

God speaks to us through His Word. Even though the Bible doesn’t talk about marketing, emails, or customer service, it is full of wisdom you can use in your business.

Try reading a few verses from Proverbs or Psalms each day. Ask yourself:

  • What does this teach me about how to treat people?

  • How can I apply this to my work today?

You might be surprised how often the Bible gives you exactly what you need.

4. Look for Peace

When God is leading you, there’s often a quiet sense of peace - even if the path feels uncertain.

If a decision makes you feel rushed, confused, or anxious, take a step back. But if something brings a sense of calm, clarity, or quiet confidence, that could be God’s way of saying, “Yes, go this way.”

God’s peace is one of the best ways to know you’re on the right path.

5. Be Open to Different Ways God Speaks

God doesn’t always speak the same way. Sometimes it’s a quiet thought. Sometimes it’s a conversation with someone. Sometimes it’s an idea that keeps coming back to you.

He might speak through:

  • A podcast you randomly clicked on

  • A scripture that stands out to you

  • A friend who gives you wise advice

  • A door that opens unexpectedly

Pay attention to those little moments. God can use anything to speak to you.

6. Give God Time

We often want answers fast, especially in business. But God’s timing is different. And His timing is always good.

If you don’t hear anything right away, that’s okay. Keep showing up. Keep asking. Keep listening. Trust that God will speak when the time is right and that His answer will be just what you need.

7. Ask for Wisdom from Others

God often speaks through people. Talk to other believers you trust. Ask them to pray with you. Share what you’re hearing or feeling. Sometimes someone else can help confirm what God has already been showing you.

Don’t walk this road alone. You were never meant to.

You don’t have to be a perfect Christian to hear from God. You don’t need a Bible degree or a special calling. If you love Him and want to follow Him, that’s enough. He is already near.

God is not just part of your Sundays. He’s part of your Mondays, your business plans, your email list, your client calls, and your ideas. He wants to walk with you in all of it.

So slow down. Ask. Listen. And trust that He will speak - in His own way and in His perfect timing.
